This is a handmade bolt action ballpoint pen made by Placid Crafts. With the bolt up the ink is retracted into the pen, with the bolt down the ink is out and the pen is ready to write. Yes, this pen is made from a Solid Aluminum Rod. The Hardware on this pen is 24 ct. Gold. The pen is 5-1/2" long. I would consider this a standard diameter pen because the pen body is about 1/2" and the top is Hex shaped (Nut Shaped).  T
he raw aluminum pen body is very unique and not like the standard pen blanks that you buy. This pen body is RAW ALUMINUM, It has no lacquer, sealer, or acrylic covering. This pen will Patina as raw aluminum will. New as it is, it is shiny. Aluminum is a soft metal and will scuff up, scratch, and age as raw aluminum. About Placid Crafts:
Placid crafts specializes in handmade pens both conventional handmade and their signature metal series pens. These are made on a metal lathe form solid metal round stock blanks; these are made from Rebar, Aluminum, Brass, and Copper. These are drilled out to 3/8” and a brass tube glued in to mount the hardware to. The Rebar is lightly cleaned on a wire wheel and sprayed with a clear coat to protect the steel from rusting. The other metal pens are turned to the proper size and the sanded for a smooth surface. These pen bodies are not sealed or coated. They will patina as each type of metal will. They will get darker as they age and the patina gives them the antique look that is so popular right now.
